Superfood Tip: Canned fruit without syrup

As the summer produce sales slip away it can become very discouraging. What was once so affordable to eat fresh produce is in transition. We can keep our fruit intake up to par (two to three servings a day) by choosing canned fruit. True, the nutrient profile is not as rich in fiber and heat-sensitive antioxidants. Other nutrients such as vitamin C, A, iron, and more than half of the fiber remain intact. When choosing canned fruit always choose those packed in natural juices not syrup. And remember it is always a healthier decision to choose a canned fruit over any packaged food.
